[ISLMA-Share] Read-in ideas?

I do a "read-in" every year for students that participated in book club
during the year. There are usually eight monthly meetings a year, and
students have to participate in at least 6 of the meetings to attend. It
is not a full day, but I have found that it is nice to have it opposite our
field day, which is usually in the afternoon. So we have the read-in in
the morning. Students are asked to bring in a snack and I divide the
students into a "breakfast" group or a "salty or sweet" group. The bring
in a snack for 12. I provide water, paper plates and napkins and ask if
students bring anything that requires silverwear that they bring it.

The day is structured so that they check in with their homeroom teachers,
and then head down to the LRC with their *5, yes 5 chapter books*, and any
pillows, blankets, etc that they want to bring. They fill out a raffle
ticket when they arrive and I have enough prizes so everyone will get at
least one prize. Prizes are some things that are donated, or ARCs that
I've received throughout the year, pencils, stickers, etc... just some fun
stuff. We start to read around 9 a.m About every 30 minutes, I have the
students stretch, get a snack, and pick raffle winners. I try to not have
students wandering up except for our stretch times to get more snacks.

We are able to read until about 11:20 or so, the we clean up and go to
lunch... and then they are ready and rested for field day! I don't allow
talking, we turn off the printers, we try not to answer the phone and my
assistant and I sit and read with them. It's wonderful! I've had as many
as 85 students and as few as 15... just depends on the participation on
book club. But they do LOVE the read-in! Happy to answer any additional
questions if you have them!
