Good Afternoon,

I need some help finding evidence that states that library shelves should
not be packed full to the capacity. There should always be a little room on
the end. I was asked why there was so much empty space on my shelves, and
I replied letting the person know that it is that way for two reasons:
Collection growth/shifting purposes and that it is best practice in making
the stacks look aesthetically appealing.

I remember learning this long ago in my college courses, but specific
measurements or percentages of empty space on a shelf didn't stick in my
head. I can eyeball it and just know. Does anyone have any info on this
topic and possibly evidence to back it up?
