I’m so sorry to hear this! I have roughly 1650 students grades 9-12 and my book budget is $2000. Has been for 8 years now and has not changed once. I’m grateful to still have it but it does mean that I rely heavily on grants and donations to increase my offerings. My students do a lot of research projects and often I have had to send them elsewhere for material.

I have three English teachers running a year-long literacy project in our sophomore classes that include a huge book drive, materials sort and delivery of materials to K-12 Illinois schools in need (usually due to budget cuts). If you would like to be a participating school this year, let me know!!

Hello library friends. I am reaching out to get an idea of your book buying budgets. I just found out yesterday our ENTIRE library budget has been cut due to the "dire financial condition" our district is currently experiencing. Historically libraries in my district have been allotted approximately $2.36 per student for purchasing new materials. This equates to roughly $4500.00 for my students at the high school. This year I have $0 to spend! I know there are grants I can and will apply for along with other fundraising ideas. I have always pursued these along with having a budget to work with but this year that will be the only way to get new materials in the hands of our students. I am planning to fight this decision but am working diligently to get my ducks in a row first! Thanks for any help you can give me to fight this fight!
