[ISLMA-Share] How-To apply for the PreK-12 Library Information Specialist endorsement

As outlined in the most recent ISLMA Newsletter, here is the process to add/update to the PreK-12 Library Information Specialist endorsement via ISBE:

Apply for a PreK-12 LIS Endorsement Now!

ISBE has recently (and immediately) changed the grade level designations for endorsements. The Library Information Specialist will now be issued only as PK-12 grade level endorsement. They have removed previous requirements for adding a middle grade endorsement, and any licensed librarian at any grade level can now ADD the PK-12 endorsement. Former rules no longer apply. At least until ISBE changes their mind again, so apply now!

To do so, licensed librarians must go into their ELIS account and ADD an endorsement. As you click through the screens, here are several choices you should make:


1.      "Teacher" for type of endorsement

2.      Answer NO to the question: "Is an Illinois university/college recommending you for this endorsement?"

3.      "New Grade Range" for type of new endorsement

4.       YES, you completed an approved program

5.       Don't worry about the list of requirements for a PEL

6.       "Special Teaching" for type of teaching

7.       "Kindergarten through grade 12" for Grade level range.

8.       Then finally, choose the Library Information Specialist - LIS, PK-12 LIS endorsement.

9.       Pay $50.00. If ISBE needs any additional information, they will contact the person requesting the endorsement.
