I know this sounds silly, but our last class of the day we have our little
ones take a piece of rolled book tape and go around and get all the little
pieces from crayons/paper/etc that have fallen on the carpet. We call it
the "Tape Job". They get to stay back for a minute or two when the class
has lined up.
Sharpening pencils, sorting crayons if you have crayon tubs, or even just
fixing shelves. I show them how to make a shelf perfect (spines out, labels
on bottom, no books hanging out on top of other books, how to use a book
end) and then assign them a section to fix.
