This is a great question. The link listed below by Rose gives a good overview of the Keith Curry Lance research, including Illinois'. I am not aware of more recent research; however, I would look to the fact that ESSA includes language regarding "effective school library programs." Also, the definition of "specialized instructional support personnel" is now updated to include school librarians, showing the importance of licensed school librarians as part of a comprehensive program to meet student needs.

Some links that may help are:
SCHOOL LIBRARY IMPACT STUDIES<https://www.baltimorelibraryproject.org/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2013/09/Library-Impact-Studies.pdf> A Review of Findings and Guide to Sources (Revised, August 12, 2013)
AASL Position Statements<http://essa.aasl.org/aasl-position-statements/>

You can also take a look at the Illinois ESSA plan<https://www.isbe.net/Documents/ESSAStatePlanforIllinois.pdf> that includes libraries in several areas.

Finally, AISLE/ISLMA is getting close to publishing the next edition of Linking for Learning which will give standards for both district administration and librarians for an effective school library program.

I'm not aware of much very recent research. You might take a look at what the Library Research Service<https://www.lrs.org/data-tools/school-libraries/impact-studies/> has listed.

I would love to see the responses to this too! Our district has NO librarian and no staff at all at our high school!

Does anyone have relatively new research on school libraries and student achievement? I'm trying to convince my district that librarians are a necessary expenditure!
Thanks.
