[ISLMA-Share] QR Codes and Book Trailers

I started doing that this year. I call it a self-booktalking book (not my idea, someone at ISLMA’s Conference a few years ago called it that).

I only do that on books that I order numerous copies of. Otherwise, it takes too long to process. I glue the QR code over the UPC/ISBN on the back cover (but recently moved it closer to the spine, because tape messes up the QR reader on the 1 to 1 chromebooks). Therefore, I only have it on about 25 titles in our collection. I plan to add more.

The students will use it once I have promoted it with the class. I also put the QR code on the poster I made for our Battle of the Books.

Problems I’ve hit have been typos on the URL that the QR codes take our students to, the publisher doesn’t have a book trailer (but I’ll use a fan created YouTube video when I find a good one), the QR code needs to be fairly large (at least 1 inch, anything less doesn’t work with the QR reader on our chromebooks), and when the owner of the website changes the address. I am still looking for a template to put these on.

Sincerely,

Alan, Librarian serving Brooks Middle School

Subject: [ISLMA-Share] QR Codes and Book Trailers

I was wondering if anyone has placed QR codes on books that students can scan that would take them directly to the publishers/authors book trailer. Does it work? Do they use it?
