I do the same. There is not an expectation that I will be making up classes

I sometimes offer to make up library times if I am in the middle of my own unit or project. I don’t like losing time with my students who I only get to see for 30 minutes. It is up to the teacher if their schedule allows it, but most work with me. That said, I do not always offer to make up time.

Speaking as a former classroom teacher, who's currently a school librarian, you can't 'make up' classes.

Just as a classroom teacher doesn't 'make up' instructional time when they're absent, you can't be expected to 'make up' classes due to schedule changes. If a classroom teacher misses a planning period, and IF that's protected planning time per their contract, that's an issue to be resolved by the school administrator--not the librarian. If you're not getting a sub to cover your classes during your absence, that's your administrator's issue, too. Not yours.

Does every music teacher 'make up' time if their class is cancelled? Does the PE teacher? Do classroom teachers need to 'make up' lost instructional time due to school-wide events?

You shouldn't be expected to either.

Best, Michelle Walsh

Hi!
For those of you on a fixed schedule, do you reschedule your library classes when they affected by an assembly or field trip? Library is a 30 minute prep for our teachers.
Just wondering what other schools do.
Thanks!
