 Responding to an old thread...

My position is .9 Library Media Specialist at our high school and .1 at our
two elementary schools which means I am at each elementary school for about
1.5 hours each week! Crazy, I know! My duties at the elementary schools are
basically collection management, maintaining the website, and sending
instructional/how to videos to students and teachers as I am not scheduled
enough time in each building to actually meet with classes.

We have three "building paras" that are assigned 5 hours each in the
library per week to check books in/out, shelve books, repair books, add new
copies to the catalog and any other projects I may have for them including
helping with weeding and inventories.

Their technical name on paper is "building para" since they are assigned
other jobs throughout the building including lunchroom duty, bus duty,
computer lab help and science kit inventory.

My issues is we have a new building para that started last year that is
continually calling herself the school librarian to teachers, parents and
community members. This does not sit well with me since she does not have a
MLIS and is not well versed in what the job of a librarian actually entails
which is partly my fault. Also, I have been avidly working to get a library
media specialist hired to take over the elementary buildings so if our
community and teachers think we have a librarian there already, I am afraid
they will not see the need to get someone hired for the full-time
professional position.

My question is, would this bother you? Should I say something or let it
fly? What would you do to handle this situation tactfully.
