[ISLMA-Share] Fall 2018 Author Visit: Cynthia Lord

Anyone in the Chicago suburbs interested in sharing Cynthia Lord, author of
(Newbery Honor book) *Rules* and (2019 Bluestem book) *A Handful of Stars*?
She is available Oct. 2-3. I'd love to share costs with another school. We
have hosted her twice before and she's great! Below is info on her
presentation and cost:


*The costs are Cindy's honorarium, $1800, airfare ($420 currently although
airfares fluctuate unpredictably), and hotel (e.g., Holiday Inn Express,
1490 W. Lake St., $137/night incl. taxes).  There are no further costs, as
Cindy does not charge for meals or incidental expenses.*


*Regarding local transportation, Cindy asks schools to have a librarian,
teacher or volunteer pick up Cindy at the airport, drive her to school in
the morning, etc.  This eliminates the need for renting a car.*

*If there is another school who wants Cindy to visit, the airfare would be
shared between both schools, around $210.  So for each school, the total
cost would be around $2,147.*


*Presentations*

*Based on her experience doing school visits, Cindy has a limit of 3 group
presentations per day.  This is mostly to protect her voice.  In her
presentations to grades 3 and above, Cindy talks about the writing process
and includes material from her middle-grade novels: Rules

*For the youngest grades (K to 2 or 3), Cindy's presentation features her
books for those grade levels, which include a chapter-book series, Shelter

It's expensive, but she is a Newbery Honor author and it's the perfect
time, with her other book on the Bluestem list!
