[ISLMA-Share] Help with book title

[Email list for the Illinois School Library Media Association]

I have a friend who is looking for a picture book.  He remembers that the
pictures start in black and white, and as the main character acquires
things--items or ideas--the illustrations add color.

Any idea what the title might be?
