Sorry, I do not normally share this type of information but it is urgent and it impacts librarians too.

Good Morning Colleagues!
Legislators in Springfield are considering a proposal that will drastically impact the ability of ALL teachers and higher ed employees in Illinois to bargain for fair pay increases. Currently, our members can receive increases up to 6 percent without their employers incurring a pension payment. The proposal would lower this amount to 3 percent. The result will be school districts and higher ed institutions further restraining wages and diminishing the education profession.
At a time when Illinois needs additional emphasis on recruiting and retaining qualified educators, this proposal would send a message to educators that the state is not willing to invest in you, your financial well-being and your retirement security. This would discourage quality candidates from entering, or staying in the profession and ultimately harm students and the quality of education in this state. This proposal will discourage educators from continuing their own education for the betterment of their students.
PLEASE CALL 888-412-6570
Enter your zip code to be connected to your legislator.
Tell them: I am a public school employee. I urge you to Vote No on the pension proposal that will be contained in the budget implementation bill. I urge you to take this proposal out of the budget discussions and to promote the education profession by investing in those who have dedicated their lives to it.
