[AISLE-Share] Post-Apocalyptic Novel Suggestions

How about The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch? SLJ rated if for grades 7-10, and the main character is 15. It reminded me of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, but at a teen level. Ashes by Ilsa Bick might be another good choice.
I’ve heard the author speak, and she claims that everything that happens in the book is physically feasible, but I’m not sure I buy that when the zombies show up (mostly in book 2).

Maybe The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. Though it's an adult book, it's not overly long and has a pre-teen progatonist. We always book talk it as a "gentle dystopia". It's also part coming of age story. Could work for an honors group.

Good morning!

I had a teacher ask me this morning about book choices for lit circles with her honors freshman English classes. The books she came up with were Legend, The Handmaid's Tale, Shadow and Bone, and The City of Ember. She is trying to have the focus of the study be post-apocalyptic novels, and I'm trying to think of some other options for her to think about, since City of Ember has been reviewed for much younger grades and Handmaid's Tale might be too much for freshman (if you have experience with either of these choices in freshman classes please let me know how it went!).

Thanks for all your help and suggestions in advance!
