[AISLE-Share] Book Title

[Email list for the Association of Illinois School Library Educators]

I don't have much to go on but a student is deprerately trying to find the
name of a book his 4th grade teacher read to him.  This is what the student
is telling me - remember not my words :)

teacher said the book had some difficult/adult themes
Pioneer/Oregon Trail time
Dad in book inclusive of all races
Native Americans hideout in barn - the family protect them
Family has slaves/positive relationship
