In the past we had have all grades K-5 participate year in a Young Author
Program. Each grade level would write some type of book: Kind. Family book
project, 1st:All about me, 2nd: Poetry, 3rd: Have done nonfiction but last
year 3rd did a graphic novel page and 4th did short story fiction. So...I
am looking for other ways to facilitate writing in K-4. Some teachers
think that doing books especially if sent home aren't true examples of
student work. They get judged and 15 get chosen to be Golden Book winners:
read aloud and 2-3 in each grade level are notables at a special Young
Author evening we have in May. They all get certificates too. Looking for
alternative suggestions. Thanks!
