Here are some from a resource list I’ve provided our Social Studies department (sorry – the formatting got a little messed up in the copy/pasting). The Digital Public Library<https://dp.la/> is another good source.

  *   American Memory - Library of Congress<http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/browse/updatedList.html>
American Memory provides free and open access to materials from the collections of the Library of Congress and other institutions which chronicle historical events, people, places, and ideas that continue to shape America.

  *   The National Archives<http://www.archives.gov/>
  *   Digital History<http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/index.cfm>
Published by the University of Houston

  * Smithsonian: National Museum of American History<http://americanhistory.si.edu/>
  * FREE: Federal Registry for Educational Excellence<http://free.ed.gov/>
Digital teaching and learning resources created and maintained by the federal government and public and private organizations.

  *   Our Documents<http://www.ourdocuments.gov/index.php?flash=true&>
The Our Documents initiative is a cooperative effort among National History Day, The National Archives and Records Administration, and USA Freedom Corps.

Click on the "100 Milestone Documents" tab on the right hand side.

  *   Indigenous People's Literature<http://www.indigenouspeople.net/ipl_final.html>
Indigenous Peoples Literature is a non-profit educational resource and collaboration dedicated to the indigenous peoples of the world and to the enrichment it can bring to all people.

Last year, I built a Primary Source Guide for my HS teachers, sorted by subject area. It’s at the top of this LibGuide:

Disclaimer- I haven’t had the time to test all of the links this year :).

At Lincoln Middle School in Mount Prospect #57, we teach our students how to use the Mt.Prospect Public Library's databases. The majority of our students use this public library. We have a few students who are patrons of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library & Des Plaines Public Library, so we show them individually how to access the same databases at these public libraries.

Our student population keeps surging but our tax base doesn't. Collaborating with our public libraries is the only way we stay afloat!

 800+students+50 teachers to serve & 1 solo librarian with no assistant=maximizing local resources

Hi all,
I am working with our Social Science teachers who are finding it difficult to locate Primary Sources within our available database. I'm wondering which databases or resources you have used to support your Social Science departments with Primary Source-based research. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
