Good morning,

A young student in the small, close-knit school district where my husband
works was recently diagnosed with cancer and the outlook is not favorable.
A teacher in another grade level has been told that she should not teach a
book she's had in her curriculum for ages because its focus is on an
athlete with cancer and his football team rallying around to support him.
Both the school counselor and the building principal have indicated that it
"hits too close to home". The student is NOT in this class, nor is her
sibling. I see this as a wonderful outlet for some kids to indirectly
express what they are feeling through the text of this novel, so I'd like
to share some research about bilbliotherapy for upper elementary and middle
school students. Before I begin my search, I am wondering if any of you
have links to some articles that talk about bibliotherapy in a classroom
setting and its benefits. Thanks in advance!
