Our middle school is grades 6-8, so I have no problems with including *Lily
& Dunkin* in our collection. However, I run into a similar dilemma when I
am considering a book that I think is more high school appropriate in our
middle school collection. When that's an issue, I ask myself what is the
age of the protagonist? If the protagonist's age is the same as the
students in my building, then I believe it should be in our collection. If
the protagonist is older than my students, then I feel that if I have
concerns, the book can be part of the older collection.

I do allow students to interlibrary loan books from the high school library
(this seems to be an issue with John Green books especially.) There is a
big difference between a student knowing the content and seeking out the
book than an unsuspecting 6th grader picking up something off the shelf.
