[aisle] Google Calendar VS Rooms

Hi Jacob,

We use shared calendars to book our lab space in our library. We elected to use a shared calendar because we have overlapping events on our calendar and the shared calendar allows it. The room calendar only allows the space to be used once per time slot.

Also, the room calendar can be somewhat touchy as far as time periods in which teachers can self-assign. There needs to be a small period of time between bookings (we use five minutes) so that the calendar will acknowledge that a person can self-assign. If that is not given, the room calendar will say that the room is not available although it clearly is which will really frustrate some teachers. However, that might be a setting that can be tweaked with one's Google admin.

We require that our teachers attend a short training session on assigning themselves to a calendar before we share the various calendars with them. As always, we always make ourselves available to calendar-challenged faculty members and try to help them overcome their Google calendar scheduling fears.
