[aisle] looking for clean YA reads for advanced reader

I’d recommend the following. These are books my own 9 year old is devouring as he is a fantasy enthusiast and advanced reader:

·         Serephina by Rachel Hartman (duology)

·         Goose Girl by Shannon Hale (series)

·         Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale

·         Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

·         The Alchemyst by Michael Scott (series)

·         Beyonders by Brandon Hull (series)

·         Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin

Hi!

I recently got a request to put together a reading list for a 9 y.o. reading near a 9th grade level. They like fantasy, but their parents want to keep their reading away from gore or romantic elements-- so definitely no Hunger Games, Mortal Instruments, etc. This second stipulation has really stymied my ideas-- does anyone have any recommendations?
