Hi Judy.
I am a school librarian for a catholic high school in Chicago and yes, we have multiple copies of that book (and Angie Thomas’ newest On the Come Up). It is a part of several class reading lists, including our junior students required list for Social Justice classes. In some classes it is required reading, in others it is a part of the outside reading choices. I never have it on my shelf and the hold list is always long. I have had to replace the books several times due to wear and tear as well as a few copies just going missing.

It is highly popular as well as an incredible jumping off point for many class discussions. I anticipate the same with her newest book. Also in high demand and used for Social Justice themes in class are Internment by Samira Ahmed and Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson.

Subject: [aisle] Catholic High Schools

I am a school library media specialist. My principal has asked for a list of any Catholic high school that have the book entitled The Hate You Give in their collections. Also, do any of your schools teach this book as a part of the classroom curriculum, not just an extra credit reading choice? We would appreciate any input from you, and you may respond off the list if you prefer to email directly.

Thanks in advance,
