[aisle] SLO - librarians exempt?

I see students every other week for 40 min and I am not exempt from the
student progress portion of my evaluation. (We use a modified version of
danielson's library eval tool.). I do not give grades.

As others have said it is extremely hard to assess seeing classes 2x a
month. I can't use Monday classes for all the holidays. I can't use
Friday classes for all the 1/2 days. I also keep attendance, because I
can exempt students who miss a certain percentage of my classes (absent,
title reading, title math, speech, etc.)

We do not use SLOs. I am required to use 2 type 3 assessments. I use pre
and post tests on 2 different skills/units. Previously I have used one
with a thesaurus unit. The Ss show improvement because most have never
seen a thesaurus or can't transfer that skill from the classroom to
library. Ss don't see the library as a place they will have to test. Some
do not take it very seriously.

Another skill I have used is using the online card catalog. I don't teach
that skill until 4th grade, so most Ss show improvement.

I hope this helps,

Roxanne Price
