[aisle] Need title, Please!

Sometimes I just love listening to a student describe a novel they want
when they can't remember the title!  So funny!!

I have a 7th grade student looking for a book that has a tree on the cover
with some animals and possibly kids around the tree.  There is a legend
that thousands of years ago the animals were able to talk,  but now they
can't.  The human characters drink some kind of nectar when they reach a
certain age, and there is a chance they might get their own spirit animal.
There is another kind of nectar that will summon animals, but those animals
have something wrong with them.  There are black worms that can crawl into
the character's skin.

It's possible "Spirit" might be in the title, maybe a series.  Based on my
conversation with the student, it might be a grade 4-6 novel or series, but
at this point, who knows.  LOL!
