Thanks for bringing this up, Amanda.

I am surprised this book is on the list at all, especially given the known
critiques from renowned scholars who specialize in critical race theory &
youth literature (for one such evaluation, check out this review from Dr.
Debbie Reese
<https://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2018/12/not-recommended-wild-bird-by-wendelin.html>).
I read this planned author chat as a celebration of this text without
critique, which is just so disappointing.

Are there steps being taken by the Caudill committee to ensure quality,
accurate, and affirming representation for all of our state's readers? Is
that not part of the criteria? If so, what metrics are being used to
evaluate texts for this annual reading list, and why is equity being
ignored? I'd appreciate any input from committee members.

-Elisa
