[aisle] Library updates and remodel

Demco has library furniture and a design team that would help you.

When I redesigned my library (I didn’t get everything I wished for) My first priority was my needs. Book cases, height being a consideration for the different ages of students, seating, STEAM area and furniture for it, etc. One thing I added was a Lego wall for my younger kids in my STEAM station area. I also had some seating custom made to hold baskets, 3 on each shelf, for my paperback picture books for my younger kids.

You’re so lucky to have this opportunity! Best wishes!

My superintendent has charged me with the task of redesigning and reconfiguring what our district's libraries need to look like and contain in order to make our facilities "21st century". He really didn't give me any boundaries (which makes me feel more overwhelmed than liberated), so I thought I would ask all of you what tangible things (furniture, displays, shelving, technology, etc.) and intangible (online resources and the like) are "must haves".

I serve two libraries (preK-6 and 7-12) with a population of nearly 900 students district wide. Both libraries have a bank of computers for student use and recently added SMART panels for instructional purposes. The district library budget is roughly $20,000, but some of that is always earmarked for things that I don't necessarily feel are library related but admin takes them out of the budget anyway.

I guess what I am asking is a blend of practical recommendations and wish list items. Our admin team is fairly focused on aesthetics right now, so I'm sure furniture will be on the must purchase list from their perspective.

Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
