[aisle] Library updates and remodel

Many "current" redesigns have your books lining the outer wall to provide
for flexible seating in the center. Things to keep in mind (especially if
aesthetics are the priority):
1. Depending on your library, you may need to weed A LOT to accomplish this.
2. The architect's layout will have you use the bottom shelves, so be sure
to *demand* (and I do mean demand) bottom shelves with a 35 degree angle,
otherwise, it will be difficult for you and your students to see the call
numbers.
3. Make sure the architect's plan calls for shelves that are at least
13-14" apart. (Our library was also based on aesthetics, and the shelves
are too close together; any higher and they would have been visible through
the windows, so lots of books are laying on their sides).
4. Make sure you make it clear that best practice is for shelves to be at
least 25% empty, so that there is room for future purchases.
5. Make sure you discuss your workspace, storage, and electrical needs. (I
lost 95% of my work space, have nowhere to store book carts and media
carts, and didn't have adequate electrical- even where they planned to
house a ChromeBook station!).

Good Luck!!!
