[aisle] Book check out

My district is letting us check out books to students, but they have to look at the library catalog online and make requests that we will fill by delivering to their classrooms. Returned books will be quarantined for 4 days, and I'm waiting until that period is up to check them in so they don't appear in the catalog as available before they actually are. We have ebooks at the high school level through eRead Illinois, but the younger grades are trying to find more ebook options.

I don't know the answer to that. Anyone?

Patty,

I was looking into epic, too. But, I am on a FB group for librarians where it was commented that epic is not COPPA compliant. Do you know if this is true, and if so, how are you going around it? One user name for each grade?

Thank you,

Hi! Yes my district is not allowing any physical library space use or book checkouts also. God knows when they will get library and book access. I think that individual administration is making these decisions based on where you are in the state and your flare up rate. Some of the school libraries are circing books with quarentining protocols, doing book delivery, allowing students to place holds or book menus but that is few and far between depending on location. I'm trying to arrange ebook cooperation and with our public library district.

Get [ http://epic.com/ | epic.com ] offers 40000 free ebooks. See if your public library has ebooks you can share & promote. Such a stressful situation that many of our students will not have access to our school libraries and print materials for many weeks. Very sad.

So my district has announced that no books can be checked out. Have other districts made this decision?

I was planning on quarantining the returned books.

I am so sad and trying to figure out how to proceed.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts with me.
