[aisle] How to structure checkout time?

Not sure this is something that could help or even work at your school, but
it could be a discussion point for yo in the future. I'm assuming this is
a teacher's prep time? We ended up moving to a flex schedule for 3rd and
4th because they had over the contractual prep time per the contract.
Students can come down any time they want/need a book instead of a
whole-class book checkout. The books at for that age are longer and more
complex, so expecting them to return and check out a book weekly didn't
make sense to me. Like you, they'd goof off, not check out meaningful
books or not check out because they were already reading one. Teachers can
bring their kids down if they want a whole-class checkout at points. I
also have each class for 30-40 minutes weekly where I can booktalk, digital
citizenship lessons, information literacy lessons, maker, etc. but it is a
flex time meaning, the teacher should stay, although it depends on the
lesson, but it isn't a guaranteed weekly time. If the teacher needs her
kids or I am pushing in to a different grade level, we can cancel that
time, giving each other a week's notice. Often, we can reschedule the time
because I don't like not seeing them. Hope this makes sense?
