[aisle] Quarantining books

I have a pre-K – 12 school building, and I am planning to have students place holds in the card catalog, and deliver materials to their classrooms. I am running Follett Destiny and I am considering making a new patron type: Quarantine, and assigning 5 patrons to the type: Quarantine, Monday…Quarantine, Tuesday… etc. When a book is returned it would be checked out to the Quarantine patron day of the week on which it will be released from quarantine. That way it shows as checked out in the card catalog and students will see an estimate of when it will be available, rather than the book showing as in and currently available when in fact there could be several days of wait. When library staff looks at the hold we will be able to see when the book will be ready. By making a unique patron type I should still be able to run circulation reports excluding the new type and get an idea of how circulation compares with previous years, etc. I am also thinking that when the books are released from quarantine, as we scan them and sort them on the carts for reshelving, we will hear our sound for when a book has a hold and it will be easy to pull those books for students. Am I overthinking? Is there something I am overlooking?

Subject: Re: [aisle] Quarantining books

Hello all. I've been trying to find older posts about how people will be quarantining books. One idea we've thought of with regards to getting books in kid's hands is:

Rolling book carts with titles and having them choose from there.
Students can keep books for 2 weeks in their desks.
Upon collection, books will be kept in milk cartons (sides/top are open) for two weeks

Questions I have:
Does this sound safe?
Can books be stacked on top of each other (like in the milk crate) or do they need to be totally spread out?
Do we/can we safely disinfect the books? (I'm thinking more for shorter books ie picture, but would all pages need to be wiped/sprayed/etc? (I'm not thinking that would be good to do but want to cover all my bases)
I'm grateful for your advice and suggestions beyond these.

Be safe!
