[aisle] Coronavirus question

My daily book return is very high at an elementary school. This solution would not work. Also the time to clean every book cover is also not feasible. I have no aide, or volunteers.
I think if we get an active case in our school the best solution is stop circulation, and yes I wouldn’t like that either!

You could put returned books in plastic bags and quarantine them for 10 days before recirculating/. In sunshine, if possible.

I was asked similar questions by my principal, and the conclusion I came to is that, yes, I could wipe every book cover, but there is no way to wipe every page inside the book and those would be equally likely to have been touched. If the virus shows up in the building, I plan to stop circulating books for a little while, as much as that kills me.

I would be interested in the source that shows the virus only lives on books for a day so I can share that with administration. I was tasked with finding more information.

No. It's not feasible to clean everything that comes back to the Library. I'm just encouraging the students to wash their hands with water and soap and making them wipe down their tables and keyboards at the end of the day. These are practices that I enforce anyway, so it's already pretty standard with the kids.

We are wearing gloves and wiping the books as well as loaner devices we circulate. We touch a ton of highly circulated resources and I feel the need to protect my assistant and library helpers as best I can.

Hi,

Are you washing every single book that comes in each day? Are you wearing latex gloves? Are you going to say no more checking out until further notice? These are questions that my para is asking me. I said that I would do some research. I'd love to have some opinions.

Thanks,
