Hello Colleagues,
I'm thinking outside of COVID19 and into the possibility of structuring our
district's library program for 2020-2021 to accommodate a flexible
schedule. I'm working on a presentation to give to administrators to "sell"
them on the idea.
Here's what I'm thinking:
We have 4 buildings - 3 elems and 1 HS
- Each building would have a circulation specialist (ie. in our case, an
aide and jack of all trades).
- Each elementary would have blocks of time set aside for circulation
with that specialist. Here, I'm thinking a 15-minute window every day for
every class, but not seeing the class as a whole, but providing the
availability for individual students to access the library as needed.
- The librarian(s) would provide instruction utilizing a flexible
schedule to :
- Work with teachers who are teaching content but we are teaching
teachers and students how to use the digital platform.
- Co-teach in the classroom to implement the district's eLearning
platform
- Teach students how to manage online learning including access and
logins
- Teach learning strategies to students
- Teach basic information literacy skills (first 6 weeks)
- Implement district-wide reading challenge(s)
- Develop design-thinking modules
Can you give me your feedback and examples of what has been working in your
school?
Thank you! Stay safe.
