[aisle] What will library look like in Fall

Hey, everybody...Peggy's question (what's a Librarian's role in eLearning?)
gets to the heart of what I'm prepping for in the next school year. I
think our role has grown more important than ever! I'm already starting to
think about how I can help teachers make sure that students know how to use
the online tools that the library provides (databases, online encyclopedia,
eRead Illinois, etc) and looking for new ones. I'm also planning to
provide Professional Development for teachers on those topics as
well...they probably don't know as much about them as I would hope. I
really want them to be able to turn to these resources not only to help
students learn, but also to make their own workloads lighter (I had so many
emails from staff looking for resources!) I'll also be offering my services
to research and curate free online tools (complete with video tutorial
links), websites, eBooks, audios, or whatever else staff needs. I know that
many staff felt very "alone" as if they were working "in a silo" and I want
to make sure that they know I'm there to partner with them. And speaking of
partnering, I've already had requests from teachers to "please come into my
classroom and help me use <FlipGrid, Google Classroom, eRead Illinois,
WeVideo, EBSCO, etc. etc.> with my students so we'll be ready for the next
closure if it comes!" I've also made myself the local expert in using
WeVideo and have offered to make "read aloud" videos to anyone who wants
them in their Google Classrooms. I want to be much more communicative about
everything I can provide! I'll be attending grade-level meetings to see
what they need/want.

I'll also be working on plans to help parents of the younger learners get
their tech skills up to speed by offering some "Parent Tech" opportunities
and/or videos, handouts, etc. At the Junior High and High School level, I'm
offering my services as "Tech Help Desk" and "Research Help Desk" via
email, Zoom, or phonecall directly to students.

And finally (whew!) when school resumes in the fall, the first thing I'll
be asking all my students is "what did the Library provide during the
closure that was helpful to you?" and "What did you NEED during the closure
that the library could have provided?"

Librarians, start your engines!! 😁📚
