I have bench seating I had custom made (and I upholstered) so I could put all of my paperback books into baskets by author. Kinder stars with one, then second semester 2 to prep then for 1st grade where they’ll get hardcover books off the shelves. [Image.jpeg]

When I had Kindergarten, I would choose several books myself and would display them out on the tables for kids to make a selection. It would make it easier to choose the books as the students can see the covers. You could have a theme for the week and read a book to go along with it. It also limited going to the shelves which makes it easier for you and them. Later in the year if you feel they are ready, you could have small groups go to the shelves.

This is my second year at a school library, but last year checkouts looked different. This year, our kindergarten students are able to check out books “normally.” Does anybody have any tips or tricks on how to make sure the kindergarteners have fun choosing a book while still avoiding a tornado disaster in the library?

I have five kindergarten classes that each come to the library for 30 minutes once per week. All five classes come back-to-back with no prep time in between.

Thank you!
