[aisle] Sebold's Lucky?

I’m pulling it from my shelf because it is outdated. The publisher has discontinued it. I read in one article (of course, now I can’t find it to link it) that she is considering rewriting the book. I would definitely add that edition to my collection.

It does depict the trial and her testimony against the man.

Honestly, I'm just not sure how to approach it. Does his exoneration and her error make this untrue? Obviously what happened to her is still horrific and valid. So does it make the book less impactful or simply more controversial? I'm also curious if they will republish it with a note about his innocence, in which case I could just replace it with that one.

My copy has an average checkout of every other year so it's not flying off the shelves but it's certainly read.

I'm just wondering what others are thinking about this.

Thanks!

I'm aware of the exoneration but haven't read the memoir - does the book depict the trial? Or what else does it depict that is problematic?

Thank you!

I usually begin biography/memoir book talks for all freshmen reading classes in January. I will likely share this story with them and let them know that I made the decision to pull her memoirs from circulation as a result.
I'm sure they will want to engage in further discussion, but I will encourage them to consider joining Book Club as it is a perfect platform to engage in this type of discussion.

Hello! In light of last week's bombshell news about Alice Sebold and her memoir, what are other libraries planning to do? Are you keeping it on your memoir shelves? Sorry if I missed a thread on this already.

Thank you!
