[aisle] Destiny Question

First, the teacher's classroom library is "Their" personal library, more than likely purchased with their own funds. It is not an asset of the school, nor is it something that will be checked out.

Our district is barcoding items that will be lent out like Chromebooks, wifi's, etc. But in Destiny they are checked out in a special way. Under the words check out, we have check out items and check in items, these two designators are only for District issued devices. It is done this way to make inventory separate from the normal library items.

A big second, the purpose of barcoding and putting items into inventory is to track the inventory. This requires the library to have a set time period where items are not circulating (okay, I know you can do it while things are out too) and for someone to conduct the inventory by scanning everything. It's time consuming at best, and if you are adding everything and the kitchen sink in, this will be a monumental task requiring paid personnel.

Lastly, this is really not the function of Destiny, or within the standard operations of a school library. We have items in our catalog so they are searchable and able to be borrowed. Simple as that.

My admin wants everything barcoded and put into destiny. We are a new school, on year three. My principal insisted all manipulatives, teacher manuals, all walkies/radios, classroom library book sets, scanner thermometers for covid.
I’m trying to come up with a good argument as to why “everything” shouldn’t be barcoded and put into the school library catalog.
Help! Am I wrong?
What is best practice?
The teachers don’t check out their classroom libraries($2k) because they are scared the students will lose them.
Looking for some advice from the hive mind please!
