Dear Colleagues,



I am in the process of completing my Doctorate in Leadership at Point Park
University.  As part of my degree, I am conducting a research study on
equity and the diversity of voice in collection development as it pertains
to LGBTQ+ materials in the school library.  This project has both personal
and professional meaning to me and I would greatly appreciate your
participation.



As librarians, we understand the power of collaboration, and I am calling
upon you to assist me by collaborating on this project.  I am hopeful that
this research will give insight into our collection development habits of
LGBTQ+ materials and ways in which school librarians think about
censorship, self-censorship, and creating an equitable collection.  There
are no right or wrong answers to this survey.  Please answer to the best of
your knowledge.  Thank you in advance for your assistance in my
dissertation process.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach
out to me at jjsturg at pointpark.edu.



I would also ask as a fellow library leader that you please send my survey
to members of your association of school librarians.  As president of the
Maryland Association of School Librarians, I understand the collective
value of learning from my colleagues and partnering across districts,
states, and even the country.  Please consider sharing my survey with your
Listserv or in an email blast to your members. My aim is to have
approximately 400 responses in 2 weeks – and I cannot do that without your
help. The survey will close on March 1, 2021.





You can feel free to copy and paste this email if you choose to send it on
(which I hope that you will). Please share widely (and often)!
