[aisle] Wise ones of 1:1...desperately need your wisdom

We don't usually track them down on day one - we do check out the
chromebooks to them through our circulation system, but a few years in we
also started keeping a clipboard for staff usage at my library aide's
suggestion - every week or so the aide goes through the clipboard and
emails any students that still have a loaner out for any reason that is not
a repair. The clipboard sounds like double work, I know, but it has really
helped us keep track so we don't have to search the system by student or
chromebook. If the student does not come down, we will email the teacher -
not immediately, but after a couple days of no student response. We use a
google form to fill in repair requests, and the tech team and repair class
are copied on the results, so they know to come get repairs for us. Also,
our policy the last several years has been once we get down to ten loaners
we only give them out for students that need repairs - we have been more
flexible on that this year due to the nature of this year - but I have
found the natural consequence of sometimes not being able to get a loaner
helps students remember. Also, we will put student chromebooks in our
carts (we used a label maker to designate a section, and always label
student computers with masking tape or post - it notes - but we can always
charge for a student if they have their chromebook but it is not charged.
I hope that helps, feel free to email me directly with any questions as
well.
Good luck with your chromebook journey!
