[aisle] [*EXTERNAL*] cataloging confusion

Well-- that's confusing. The book is always king. Anyone can make
mistakes. OCLC does. I'm sure Titlewave does. ALL of my cataloging
training says go with the book.

HOWEVER, when presented with confusing data FROM the book, it's time for
some research. It seems very clear your first case is nonfiction. There
may be episodes in her personal history that are fictionalized in moments
of dialogue but the foreword by Gratz and the additional information at the
end make it clear that it is biographical. I'd go with that. Cataloging
training for subject analysis is "go with preponderance of evidence".
>From what I saw of the "Eighty Dollar champion"-- it is also a revision of
a true event. It is edited for a younger audience but that doesn't make it
fiction. I looked at the publisher website for the adult book and nowhere
on the verso did I see a work of fiction. The CIP was definitely stating
nonfiction in nature.

If this were me, I would catalog as nonfiction. Of course it's yours to
decide!
Have fun!
