[aisle] Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action - February 1 - 5 , 2021

I also am willing to engage with anyone who wants to process or talk more
together. I do think it is very important, especially as a white-dominated
profession, that those of us with power and privilege (myself included as a
white person) continue to do the work of understanding our history and our
present, so that we can contextualize it, see the patterns at play, and act
so that all of our students are treated equitably. I fully stand by the BLM
principle
<https://www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org/black-lives-matter/13-guiding-principles>s
as well as the stated core values and calls to action from many of our
professional leadership organizations, like this call to action from ALSC
<https://www.alsc.ala.org/blog/2020/06/black-lives-matter-alscs-call-to-action-and-endorsement-of-bcala-and-ala-recent-statements/>
.

To me, there is a difference between "stop killing us" and "stop making us
mad by not letting us continue to kill you." There is a difference between
the protests this summer and the violent insurrection last week. When in
history has social progress not been seen as "divisive" by those who have a
vested interest in the status quo?
