[aisle] Long Time Member Passes

AISLE has recently learned that Donald C. Adcock passed away last week.
Throughout his career Don was very active promoting Illinois school
libraries and librarians. He was involved in IAME (Illinois Association of
Media Educators, a forerunner of AISLE)  as past president, conference
chair and multiple committees. In 2015 he received the ISLMA (now AISLE)
Lifetime Member Honor Award. He also served as IASL president and treasurer
receiving the IASL Honor Award in 1977. After his retirement as director of
Library Services, Glen Ellyn S.D. 41, he served as the director of the
school library media program at Dominican University in the then Graduate
School of Library and Information Science, now the School of Information
Studies. While at Dominican, Don taught as an adjunct professor and was the
supervising instructor for students in the school library program. He was
hired by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division
of the American Library Association (ALA) as a program officer and served
as the National Coordinator of the National Library Power Program, a 40
million dollar investment by the DeWitt Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund,
managed jointly by AASL and the Public Education Network to transform
school libraries into centers of learning. He also served as AASL Interim
Executive Director. Don served in many different positions on the Board of
Directors for the International Association of School Librarianship,
passionately traveling internationally with his wife Joann. In 2015 he was
named an Illinois Library Association Library Luminary Honoree. AISLE and
all Illinois School Librarians honor Don for his work advocating and
supporting school libraries. He will be missed.
