[aisle] Have you painted metal library shelves?

Hi all,
We have metal shelves that have certainly seen better days cosmetically.
They are still structurally sound and sturdy, but have horrible spots on
them that are quite unsightly.

Has anyone painted metal shelves successfully? If you can share any
experiences you have painting metal shelves, good or bad, that would be
much appreciated!
