Paint! First and foremost, make sure your walls are a warm palette. When
we repainted our middle school library, I was amazed at how excited our
kids were about this very simple change.

Interactive play theater. Have puppets or props students can use to
recreate stories or inventive plays.
(*Yes, I know there are Covid concerns, but K-2 students are tactile
learners*.)

Interactive felt or magnetic boards where students can recreate stories.

learners*.)

Interactive board games and puzzles.

learners*.)

Schaumburg Public Library had/has a dry erase surface where they post
different questions and kids use stickers/magnets to indicate their
preferences. This serves as an interactive graph. Cool way to reinforce
graphing and its purpose.

Favorite stuffed characters! Even my middle school kids love my
Piglet=pencil sharpener; Tigger=tissue;
Eeyore='Bully Box'. We use Hundred-Acre Wood stuffed characters to help
them navigate the library.
As corny as it sounds, it really does work:)

Ballot Box-Give kids the opportunity to 'vote' in elections OR 'vote' for
their favorite storybook character.
You can even create a privacy frame around it.
(Ex. Elephant & Piggie; Pigeon; Clifford; Fancy Nancy)

Sensory-friendly furniture and features. Rocking chairs really help!

Vinyl or leather bond furniture. Children are messy and you want an easy
cleanup. No pillows!
Even at my middle school, the kids would snuggle their noses up next to
them.

Flexible furniture arrangements.

Flat-screen monitors of 42+inches with Bluetooth technology.
