Look at John Green's Crash Course video on lateral reading
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoQG6Tin-1E&t=2s>(in the Navigating
Digital Information series). He does a really great job of explaining it
and you may get ideas of how to show it to your students. You could even
use part of the video to show them this. I would not recommend using the
entire video (it's about 14 min), but he provides a couple good examples of
doing this and reasons why it's important--in layman's terms!
