Oh my goodness! I just read a summary, and I agree with your opinion. I
would first ask if she has read the book herself. You could explain that
the book is rated YA and share a description. Perhaps she read it long ago
and forgot what it was about. You could also ask what it is about the book
that she wants to share with the class - power, parental loss... can't
think of much else in that book that would be a theme for fifth grade! If
she has a particular theme or curriculum connection, it would help you to
suggest another title.

You could also say that you don't feel comfortable with the book at an
elementary school and suggest she get it for herself at the public library.
That way you're not held responsible if you get parent complaints. You have
CYA by saying you declined to get the book for her.
