Hello fellow fans of literature,

I just received my first challenging email of the year (which I have a
feeling will not be the last) about the 2022 Monarch nominee *PRIDE: the
story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag*. It was on display in the
library during parent/teacher conferences. The parent was offended that
this book was available to K-5 graders. The parent stated that they have no
problem with members of the LGBT community, but that did not want her
children exposed to it at such a young age. Sigh...

I am fortunate that my district is supportive of my addition of more
diverse materials for our students and that it is part of our mission as a
district.

I was wondering if anyone else has already seen issues with parents and
this book? I also just needed to vent to people who get it!

Thanks for listening!
Dawn
