We haven't had 6th graders in a couple years (they moved them up to what it
now a middle school), but when we did I used to have them research
different urban legends and other odd facts and we created foldables that
we hung up in the hallway where people had to lift the flap to see more
info about the weird fact (like the one about the bank robbers in Japan who
sent a thank you note after robbing the bank). We would spend about 2 weeks
researching and I tied it to learning how to create a correct bibliography
entry, so then we spent one week on the bibliography and the final week
creating the foldable.
