Maybe: Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat by Lynne Jonell? It was on the Caudill list awhile back.

Subject: [aisle] Book Title

I have a student who is looking for a book she read in Middle School. Here are the details she remembers:

A girl in a store with a talking rat.

A hand that walks around (like in the Addams family)

There might be fairies?

She thinks the cover has a similar vibe to The Night Circus because she almost thought that it was just based on the cover. I'd almost say Tale of Despereaux until she mentioned the hand.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!!
