[aisle] Deleting LOST Books From Your System

Depends on how they got marked lost…


  *   Student lost a book – it gets deleted from the catalog once it’s paid for. We do not take books back and give refund – if you pay for a book and then find it, it’s yours to keep.
  *   Marked lost during inventory or while looking for it on the shelf – after 3-4 years of it not turning up (I do inventory every other year, so after three years it’s had two chances to be found via an inventory scan)
  *   Student lost it but didn’t ever pay for it – deleted 3 years after student has graduated/left school.
  *   Teacher lost it – 4 years or so. Depends on how much I trust that the teacher won’t miraculously find it and then I have to re-add it.

I'd love to hear what others say.  I usually leave them in for a while in case they suddenly turn up under someone's bed or the trunk of a car.  But I figure if they aren't back in a year or 2, they aren't ever coming back.  I tend to delete after 3 years, but that is totally arbitrary.

  *   When you do inventory?
  *   When the fine has been paid?
  *   When students graduate?
  *   When you replace the book?
  *   How long do you leave teacher lost books in the system?
  *   When you get sick of seeing it?
I've got books in the catalog that were lost in 2010.  Deleting them now.
