[aisle] Elimination of Full-Time Librarian In Our Two-School District

Katie - I am one of four Media Assistants in a District in which every
school (7) has a certified teacher-librarian. A number of years ago, our
assistant positions were on the chopping block. Our Media Specialists went
to work and provided the School Board mountains of data about what would no
longer happen - either we wouldn't be there to do it, or they would have to
stop doing things they had been doing to cover our essential tasks. In this
case, it was very effective and turned the tide.

People have the (mistaken) idea that things like shelving books can be done
by volunteers, but they don't understand that volunteers are not always
there when you expect them, and they don't always bring the skill set you
need.

I hope this is helpful. You are in my thoughts.
