You can partner with the nearest Chicago Public Library as they usually have a summer reading program. Have someone from their staff either come in to promote it to students, or they can create a video promo that you can play to your classes.

I do a summer reading program once a week for 8 weeks in the summer, 2 hours a day.

I do STEAM projects and have a weekly theme that ties in reading, and the project.

Hi!

I’m a pre-k to 8 librarian at a small school in Chicago.

What great ideas are there to encourage reading over the summer? Games? Challenges? Please let me know what you’re working on-I am new to this role.

Sincerely,

Laura Davis
